New Hampshire born, Duane Allen Hammond graduated with a degree in Graphic Design and Fine Arts, Museum School of Fine Arts, Boston, 1964. Shortly after graduation, he worked as Art Director for three different marketing and ad agencies until, in 1969, he founded his own graphic design studio, The Magnificent Art Machine. In 1981, the name of his business was changed to Hammond Design Associates, until it closed in 2003.
For over forty years, he was the tour de force behind agencies that won awards for graphic design, illustrations, logos, photography, copywriting, space advertising, etc. He earned Best of Show and First Place Awards from over fifty trade groups, including: Boston Art Directors, NY Art Directors, Hatch Awards, Desi Awards and NH Graniteers. His artistic works were also published in such prestigious publications as Print, CA, Décor’, and Art Business News.
He employed a full-time staff of up to ten people. Clients included multi-national and national companies, major U.S. corporations, manufacturing companies, and those engaged in insurance, banking, health, hi-tech, advertising and marketing agencies as well as non-profits. Now retired from the business world, he spends his time painting watercolors and pastels. Many of his recent fine art paintings have also won Best of Show and First Place Awards.
Painting in both realistic and impressionistic styles, he has produced masterful renderings of seascapes, landscapes, cityscapes, and wildlife. He is also well-known for pastel paintings of humorous and satirical images of pigs engaged in human-like activities and situations. The name of his collection of over 175 pig paintings is “Pigs ina Poke™”. His pig products include notecards, magnets, and matted/framed prints, plus two books: Pigs ina Poke, Collection #1 (Beech River Books, 2006) and Pigs ina Poke, Collection #2 (Beech River Books, 2010). “Pigs ina Poke” was a feature presentation on WMUR, Channel 9, New Hampshire Chronicles.
